In the early 1800s, from what is now the Lithuanian port of Klaipèda on the Baltic, came significant imports of timber with supplies of hardwoods coming from Honduras and San Domingo. Now, more than two centuries later, clustered together we find Memel Street – Klaipèda’s old Prussian name – Timber Street, Honduras Street, Domingo Street, Baltic and Sycamore Street – all six, together with this little place, built or developed by Thomas Hacket, a wood merchant.
